The Academy of Music now offers Online Music Lessons, In-Home Music Lessons or Studio Music Lessons in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The Academy of Music has been offering quality in-home music lessons at reasonable tuition rates for over 30 years starting in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1990. We now offer online instruction via Skype or FaceTime as well as in-home and studio lessons in Abbotsford on the piano, guitar, voice, violin, drums, ukulele, flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, oboe, bassoon, euphonium, tuba, French horn, viola, cello, double bass and electric bass!

The Abbotsford Arts Council hosts a number of free local events including music in Mill Lake Park, the Arty Awards and more recently, the Christmas Artisan Gift Fair. Trethewey House Heritage Site features a restored 1920s Craftsman-style house built by J.O. Trethewey, one of the owners of the lumber and shingle mill that gave Mill Lake Park its name. The municipally designated heritage house and adjacent gallery are open to the public for special events, educational programming, and drop-in tours.
The Mennonite Heritage Museum, which opened in January 2016, features a permanent exhibit that tells the 500 year old story of the Anabaptist / Mennonite movement, with a particular focus on the history of those Mennonites who settled in Abbotsford beginning in the early 1930s. The Museum also has a gallery that features the work of local Mennonite artists, a coffee shop serving traditional Mennonite foods, a bookstore, and a replica traditional Mennonite housebarn that includes a permanent exhibit focusing on Mennonites and agriculture. The Museum is also home to the library and archive of the Mennonite Historical Society of British Columbia.

What is your policy on lesson cancellations?
At Academy of Music, we understand that unexpected events can arise. As long as you notify your teacher 24 hours in advance, a make-up lesson will be given. We offer a maximum of 3 make-up lessons per year.
Which instrument should I choose?
This is a personal choice, but it can be tough to decide with so many options available! It’s a good idea to consider what kinds of music you like so that you can emulate your preferred genre using your instrument of choice. When you’re passionate about what you create, you’ll find it easier to absorb the material of the lessons. Pick an instrument that inspires you the most.

Do you offer online lessons?
Yes! Learning online means that you can study music in the safest way possible. There are many advantages to online music lessons, the main one being that they are extremely convenient. You can practice immediately following the lesson instead of having to wait until you drive home. By using your computer, you can record lessons for easy playback at a future date. If your parents or siblings used to drive you to the studio, they will enjoy the fact that they won’t need to anymore.
Are your lessons only for children, or are they also offered for adults?
We teach a variety of lesson plans that will cater to any skill level. Depending on your goals, we adjust our curriculum to match your desired outcome. Music is enjoyable at all ages! From young children to seniors, our instructors are adept at teaching all ages and levels of students.
Do you offer a free trial lesson?
If you sign up for one of our online music lessons, then your first lesson will be free! This allows you to decide if music lessons are right for you. You’ll be able to experience a full lesson without any obligations. We know that you’ll appreciate what our free trial music lesson has to offer!
What month of the year do you offer music lessons?
Our music lessons correspond to the school calendar. They begin during the week of Labour Day (First Monday in September) and conclude at the end of June. We also offer summer music lessons on a limited basis.
